Meta has inked a landmark 20-year agreement with Constellation Energy to procure 1.1 gigawatts of nuclear power from Illinois' Clinton Clean Energy Center, beginning in 2027. The deal underscores the tech giant's commitment to sustainable energy solutions for its AI-driven data centers.

The partnership preserves over 1,100 jobs and generates $13.5 million in annual tax revenue without public subsidies. Originally slated for closure in 2017, the Clinton facility gained a reprieve through Illinois' Future Energy Jobs Act and will now operate for two additional decades.

Nuclear energy emerges as a strategic choice for powering Meta's ambitious AI initiatives, which include full automation of Facebook and Instagram operations. The company has evaluated over 50 nuclear projects across 20 states, signaling potential for further expansion in clean energy infrastructure.
